Mondaine introduces the Simply Elegant

by WatchReport

Mondaine, makers of the iconic swiss railway inspired watch, have released a new model named the Simply Elegant which features a remarkably thin case design. After Basel this year it has become increasingly clear that “thin” is the new “oversized” and we think this is about as good as trends get. This new found popularity  has not been lost on Mondaine as the new Simply Elegant is a svelte 6.2mm thick. Available in either 41mm or 36mm sizes with the choice of a black or white dial the new Simply Elegant will likely be a winner for the Mondaine brand. This quartz powered lightweight has an MSRP of roughly $420 USD but can be found online for less. We welcome this new found fascination with thin watches as they are infinitely more wearable and thin watches make great day-to-day timepieces.

The model name seems so appropriate – ‘simply elegant’.  It certainly looks very lightweight, do you have any other suggestions for thin watches?

Lisa Clark:
Have you tried to check Botta´s design watches? They also have great thin watches, automatic and quartz.

I bought the Uno24 and love it, it´s thin and quite precise watch but not the easiest watch to tell time since it has 24 hour scale and is small enough to be used with any clothes but sometimes hard to read the dial.
However, this is supposed to be a nice watch for people that don´t need to know time by the minute and it´s quite fun! :)

Thanks for the suggestion and link!  The Clavius looks very cool, slick and modern.  The Uno 24 looks cool too, but I think it’d take a while for me to get used to figuring out the time, haha.

this really looks incredible, the case almost looks inverted. exceptional watch and it seams very light, which is always a plus when you wear it on a regular basis.

For a nice evening out in any of the top cities of the world, with the nice blazer, a nice shirt look, wearing the ultrathin Piaget watches makes the grade. My favourite from the Piaget ultrathin range is Piaget Altiplano Double Jeu. Splendid thinking deserving a splendid thought.

Hi James Stacy. Thanks for this presentation and photographs.
This Mondaine watch always did look great, and this new one
with the thin case looks wonderful.

As long as you people are talking about ultra-thin, but great looking
watches, could I mention the Citizen Stiletto watches.  They have
a round one, a rectangular one, several in roman numerals..  These
all have sapphire crystals, and solar quartz movements, so you do
not have to change batteries.

In fact, Mr. James Stacy, I wonder if you could do a presentation
of one of the Citizen Stilettos, as I notice nobody talks about them!

I have no financial interest in these watches.  I do get excited when
I find something very good.

@b0f5114298574c70726fb05a16666df5:disqus Hi Paul, I will look into those and if we can get one I’d be happy to get a review. Any specific model or style you like?

The Stiletto line appears to have about 6 different looks, some are newer,
some are older.  They are all thin and elegant.  I personally like the rectangular
AR1004 series, or the round AR1050.  When I handled these watches,
considered their price, I thought something was wrong with the world. Thanks.  Paul
