Helberg CH8 Watch Review

ARVE Error: The [[arve]] shortcode needs one of this attributes av1mp4, mp4, m4v, webm, ogv, url

In the micro brand world there are a few extremely popular watch brands, and this one I am discussing today, Helberg, is near the top for sure. For those not familiar, Helberg is sort of the sister brand of H2O watches. Both are geared mainly towards dive watches, though Helberg did release a model that was more a pilot style. The difference between the two is there are not as many options with Helberg such as bezels and dial choices, while H2O uses titanium in many of their cases, Swiss movements and has as many options as you can think of.

Lets get back to Helberg and the CH8. Following up on the success of the immensely popular CH6, the CH8 is another vintage style diver in a 43mm case (44mm bezel), which resembles, in a way, a classic Squale, though in a more modern size.

Helberg/H2O is based in Germany and their owner, Clemens Helberg, definitely has his finger on the pulse of the micro brand world. Helberg watches are machined in Asia and finished in Germany and this particular model uses the Miyota 9015 automatic movement, which has become widely popular.

Below is an HD video with my first look and comments.

Helberg CH8 Specifications:

  • 43mm Stainless Steel Case/Bezel measures 44mm in diameter
  • 53mm lug to lug
  • 24mm lugs
  • 18mm thick (including crystal) 14.6 without
  • Super Dome sapphire crystal
  • Sapphire lumed bezel insert
  • 1000 meter water resistance
  • Miyota 9015 automatic movement
  • Black ostrich leather and brown horween straps (straps dependant on what you order)
  • Price as configured/reviewed $693

When you go to the Helberg website and look up the CH8, you will see there are many options. Too many to list here, but you can add different straps, a flat or super domed crystal, different bezels and dial choices. It is also available in a bronze case, as opposed to stainless steel, same as the CH6 was.

Now, I normally do not like to compare watches to previous models in a review, but since the CH6 was so popular, I am going to point out a few differences between them. Things that I really liked on the CH6 and things I wish the CH8 had. I want to state right up front though, the CH8 is a hell of a dive watch, and one that many will probably love.

I've been an avid watch lover since the age of 7. Watches are not only my hobby but a passion. My favorite style used to be dive watches, but field or non bezel watches have been growing on me. When I'm not reviewing watches I am either cooking or with family and friends.

  1. I finally cached up with this review and it describes the watch as it is, in detail. I purposely ordered the domes crystal, as I do on most on my watches if this option is available. I think it adds a vintage touch although for the CH8 not true to the original. Keep ’em coming!
